First Meeting of Joint Management Committee of Shanghai D&I Held


On April 14, 1st meeting of Joint Management Committee, Shanghai International College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University (Shanghai D&I) was held after its launching ceremony. Tuula Teeri, President of Aalto University (Aalto), Hannu Seristö, Vice President of Aalto, Turkka Keinonen, Head of Department of Design, School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Aalto, Li Yaoxin, Chief Supervisor of Shanghai Yidian, Pei Gang, President of Tongji University (Tongji), Jiang Bo, Vice President of Tongji, Yan Aihua, Vice Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Lou Yongqi, Dean of College of Design and Innovation, Tongji attended the meeting.

Participants discussed about issues on education, innovation entrepreneurship, joint research in Shanghai D&I, focusing on administrative system, international faculty and curriculum construction. Based on Sino-Finnish Centre and Aalto-Tongji Design Factory, Tongji and Aalto will strengthen current Sino-Finnish collaboration, create a new system of innovation education by combining Aalto Business Accelerator Program, and actively explore new possibilities for the construction of Shanghai Technology and Innovation Center and education reform in Shanghai.

Tongji and Aalto are developing innovative master programs and curriculums jointly. Shanghai D&I will implement bilingual teaching and recruit international faculty from top universities all over the world. Aiming to co-establish an international innovation education and research eco-system integrating market, coach and training program, Tongji and Aalto will inspire and encourage students to start up their own innovative companies, provide support for potential new start-ups on the basis of advanced education. Meanwhile, Shanghai D&I will promote design-driven university-industry collaboration and interdisciplinary research in need of the economic transformation and industry upgrading in Shanghai.

Sino-Finnish Centre will jointly participate in the construction of Shanghai D&I, transforming into an open interdisciplinary education platform and a research oriented platform. Aalto-Tongji Design Factory will continually function as a network platform supporting industrial innovation.
