Description
In this workshop, students dive into the world of future smart objects, sensor technology, business of playful Internet of things, as well as user experiences and narratives of a playful future. The students, with different backgrounds and nationalities, are introduced to the topic and given a design task to explore. They use a real, local context (office, hotel lobby or co-working space) for their concepts. At the end of the workshop, students present their ideas to each other and the best concept will be given a prize!

Nov. 2nd 6:00pm-9:00pm Kick-off workshop: lecture, team forming and playful brainstorming @ SFC Stage
Nov. 3rd Exploring the city and creating the concepts in teams;
Nov. 4th 6:30pm-8:30pm Presenting the concepts to the rest of the group, the winner will be selected @ SFC Stage
Lecturers
Annakaisa Kultima
is a game researcher and designer at the University of Tampere Game Research Lab. She has been studying playful brainstorming techniques, the design practices of game developers and hybrid playful experiences among other interesting playful topics. She has run workshops and given guest lectures around the globe in such locations as Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, UK, US, Japan, China and Mexico. Annakaisa Kultima is also the president of the non-profit organization Finnish Game Jam, which focuses in running several game jams in Finland.
Timo Nummenmaa
is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Tampere. He received his PhD in computer science from the University of Tampere in 2013. His PhD thesis focused on utilizing executable formal specifications in game design and development. His research concentrates on such areas as hybrid experiences, pervasive digital games, playful Internet of things, playfulness, game evolution and gamification. He has given workshops and/or lectures in such countries as China, US, Sweden, Netherlands and Greece.
